Kiwanis Promotes Literacy

Every year since we started in 1999 we have asked the schools in Marion to participate in a book drive. The schools have their students bring in new or gently used books. We go to each of the schools and load up the books and deliver them to Toys for Tots and other local organizations for distribution to needy kids. The classroom that collects the most books is awarded a pizza party from Happy Joes.

In the first 20 years we’ve collected
over 200,000 books estimated at $1,000,000.
That’s a LOT of books.
