Pediatric Trauma Kits save kids’ lives. They really do. We’ve met some of them. We purchase these kits for Iowa’s volunteer first responder squads. Read more…
The annual book drive is one of our original service projects. Each year around Thanksgiving we ask the local schools to collect new or gently used books. The classrooms at each school that donate the most gets a free pizza party from Happy Joe’s. Read more…
Our annual Easter Egg Hunt is considered the fastest 2 minutes in sports. The Saturday the weekend before Easter on the Oak Ridge Elementary (west) side of Lowe Park we put out thousands of eggs for the kids to scoop up. Read more…
Everybody loves a parade. We enter a float in the Swamp Fox Festival Parade to promote our BBQ and Miracle League. Read more…
Take Away Hunger provides prepackaged meals for those hungry kids locally and around the world. Each year we join forces with the other local Kiwanis and Key Clubs to pack 8000 meals. Read more…
On a world wide scale Kiwanis International (KI) started organizing world wide service projects in 1990.
The first world wide service project we helped on was Iodine Deficiency Disorder (IDD). This addressed the world’s largest source of preventable mental retardation. KI raised over $110 million for this. Read more…
That one went well so KI partnered up with UNICEF again to address Maternal Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) around the world with the Eliminate project. Read more…
We are a dedicated group of volunteers that have accomplished all of these things. Some by partnering with others. Some by working hard. But we always try to make it fun for our members. A GIANT THANK YOU to everyone who came out to Lowe yesterday for the Rendezvous. It was disappointing to have to cancel the last band. We were all looking forward to hearing them perform. Even though Mother Nature was disappointing the generosity of everyone has been very heartwarming. Our players in the Kiwanis Miracle League will be sending lots of smiles your way.
