The summer kicks off each year on the first Saturday of June. The Marion Metro Kiwanis BBQ Rendezvous is a 10 hour event that features food, music, and family fun for everyone.
We host three bands on the stage at Lowe Park on the north side of Marion.
Admission is FREE. It doesn’t get anymore family friendly than that. Bring your lawn chairs and spend the day. First band starts at 11AM. Just in time for lunch.
The food is outstanding
Our first BBQ was in 2011 and we had 3 vendors. We quickly grew to 6 vendors as the event has grown into a very popular event in Marion. Ribs are the most popular item.
These guys set up Friday evening and slow cook the meat overnight. The smell is intoxicating. From their grill to your plate.
We also have HyVee bring non-BBQ food to feed those folks that want in on the fun but maybe want something a little less messy. We have pop, beer, and wine available to quench your thirst. Funnel cakes, ice cream, and bakery goods round out the menu.
Face painting for the kids is always popular.
We like to keep the kids entertained with activities during the day. Face painting is always popular. In addition we’ve had balloon animals, side walk chalking, and bean bag tosses.

Urbana gets their kit. This was a fun one because Brooks and I both grew up in Independence. Parents were good friends but I am a little older so after college I lost track of him. Now 40 years later I discover he's the assistant chief for Urbana's squad. It was a very fun presentation. Thank you Brooks for being great service to your community. ... See MoreSee Less

This is our biggest fund raiser by far. We get support from the City of Marion and many local businesses that buy banners that we display at the Marion Metro Kiwanis Miracle League Field at Prospect Meadows.
If your business would like to be included in our list of sponsors please take a look at this.
